Journal 5

Here are my pictures of rule of thirds, framing and lead in lines.
The first picture is rule of thirds. This picture was taken beside my house, will a little tree growing beside it.

Here is my picture of lead in lines. The branch of the tree makes your eyes follow the one red leaf.

Here are my pictures for framing. The first one is taken through a broken branch, but i really like the second one the most cuz the tree is blurry and my friend isnt. It makes it look like i was in the tree for it.

Born Into Brothels Questions

1. I think Zana gave the children the cameras because with the cameras they can express themselves differently and it could help them with their self-esteem and make them better people.

2.If they were in Canada, they would probably not be taking the same style of pictures as the children would in India. There, they just used cameras for the first time and took pictures of anything they wanted to capture, even feet like in that one picture. If it was here it would probably not be considered a good picture, but since the struggling child took them in another country, it made the pictures more interesting because of the background they came from.

3.It tells us that Avijit is very creative and loves art. It shows that he is most interested in that. He had a terrible childhood with not very many people to stand by him, so he turned to art to show his feelings.

4. I think personal expression means the way you like to express yourself through certain subject matters such as sports and art. With art, everyones style is different. Artists and photographers put there own style and expression in every piece they do. No one can repeat someones elses style or expression the same way the first person did. Personal expression is very important when it comes to art, or else art would be very boring.

5. Art can be used many ways to educate others, for instance in this movie. When the children took photos of what they enjoyed and their surroundings it educated people like us, and other people who have watched the movie, of what there life was like. It taught us how much there life sucked, but also showed us that they made the best of a bad situation.

Part B
I really like this one because of the bright colour of the car, and how someone is pointing to the happy girl. The hand is blurred out and the girl in the car stands out which makes this and interesting piece.
I also like this picture because of the way it was taken from behind. Also, the picture is clear and shows all the colours perfectly, and shows what they have to do in there life.

I find these two pictures powerful from the way there living conditions are, and its not right how they have to live at a place like this. You can see how terrible their house is by looking at the floor and walls. It educates you by showing you where they must live, and how they cant leave because of human rights and simply cannot afford to go.

Does a picture have to be beauitful to be effective?
No, a picture does not need to be beautiful to be effective. I think that all the pictures of the kids in the gallery when they are happy are beautiful because even though they have a hard life, they still find a way to make the best of it and be happy. Yes, it does help if a picture is beautiful, but the smiles on their faces are beauty to me.

Shutterspeed

For my assignment I picked the best picture I had of light painting because that was the only thing that really actaully worked with my camera. I then put it in photoshop and got rid of all the backround images. I think it turned out pretty cool. This picture was taken with a 15 second exposure time. It also came out brighter then others because this was the first picture i took with the dollar store lights, so they were only bright for a little while.

I also just put this in here to show you what we did with writing letters. I thought it was really cool. My friend and i did two letters each and we wrote backwords.

Journal 3

I had a bit of a hard time this week with my pictures since I have a simple point and shoot camera but i tried my best with what I have. My best pics were from light painting. I also couldnt get panning shots because my camera isnt good.

This is light painting with a glowstick with a 15 second shutter speed

This is a 8 second shutter speed with the lights turned off at the end

This is my attempt at an action shot.

The best shot i could take with the strobe light.

Pinhole Camera Pictures

Jake and I worked together on making our pinhole camera. The first picture we took was this one. It did not work out. Not only was it under exposed, but during the process of developing it, our picture got cross contaminated and a big blob of chemical got on the picture. It wouldnt of really mattered anyways, because the picture was way too dark because we left it open to long.

Our second picture turned out much better then the first, but it was still a bit under exposed. Also, we faced it at alot of trees which made it darker. The picture does show what we were trying to take a picture, the trees and the road. We left the hole open for 10 seconds.

Our last picture turned out the best out of all of them. It still is a little under exposed in the one corner, but that is because we took the picture in the shade. I decided that since we were in the shade, we should open it for 20 seconds. Maybe if we kept it open a little longer the bottom corner would of been brighter. Over all, I still think it was a good shot.

Journal 1

It took me a while to decide what I should take pictures of to represent myself. I decided to show some of the favourite things I like to do on a day to day basics. I didn't think I had to do much editing because I think that the pictures already have good lighting an great angles.

For this picture I was experimenting with my settings on my camera, by taking a picture of my other camera. After I took it I thought it was a really good shot. It represents how I like to take pictures all the time.
For my second picture I decided to show another thing that I do everyday, use the computer. Not only do I chat with friends and play games, but I love to edit pictures and make slide shows for my friends and family. I do this very often.
When I walked to my friends house the other day I saw this and I thought it was a really good shot because right when I took the picture it moved its head. It represents how I love being outside and looking at nature.

Everyday I spend atleast an hour reading because that is one of my favourite things to do. While I was sitting down reading one of my new favourite series last night, I decided that it would be cool to show how much I like it by taking a picture.

This is my little cousin Manuel. He is one of my favourite little cousins. I spend so much time with him, an his older sisters as much as I can. My most favourite thing to do is hang out with them. They are the cutest kids I know. I took this picture because when I went up to him he was getting into trouble an he looked at me and started laughing so I took a picture.
I think my pictures showed my day to day life in what my favourite things to do are, and what represents me. Some of the time it was quite difficult to find something to represent myself, but after I did some thinking I took a few cool pictures, in my opinion

Getting to Know Your Style

These War pictures were taken by Ben Curtis.

The picture with the Micky Mouse is my favourite out of these pictures. I like it because it shows a childs toy placed in the middle of bomb rubble that avoided getting destroyed. This picture has been done many times but I like how the toy is placed and the rubble surrounding it. It is very symbolic to the war times. http://blogs.photopreneur.com/worlds-most-infamous-staged-photos
